Founder & President, Jennifer Thomas Marino

After 20 years as a Director of Human Resources & Office Management in Merchant Banking and Asset Management as well as in Heavy General Construction in NYC, Jennifer went on to raise a family and then return to the workforce after nearly a decade as the Business Manager of an Estate & Trust law firm on LI where she managed the Medicaid Division helping hundreds of families prepare to qualify and then ultimately be approved for Medicaid either for Long Term Home Health Care (also known as Community Medicaid) or for Nursing Home Care.  With her entire career having been built on meeting, mentoring, and building long-term relationships with clients, employees, and colleagues — she is truly a people person.

“In 2020, I realized that the time had come to now prepare and apply for Community Medicaid for my mom who was 87.  We were only months away from NYS changing the guidelines to qualify from a 30 day look-back to a 2.5 year look-back (postponed until April 2024 due to Covid-19).  I started the process of applying in late July and we finally had an approval after going back and forth with additional requests of documentation from the Department of Social Services by October. Having done this for countless clients in the past (sometimes handling 25-30 active cases at a time) it seemed it would be an easy task this time around.”

However, when it’s for your own parent, not a client, you encounter a whole other realm of stress which can include resistance or denial about requiring the care you are seeking for them, push back or refusal to give up control of their finances and even sometimes tears when they come to terms that their quality of life and abilities are changing and sometimes rather quickly.  Letting go and allowing others to manage their finances, daily living arrangements and care can be exceptionally overwhelming for the elderly and their family members as well.

“Upon encountering the other side of the approval process from Medicaid, which to most would seem daunting enough, and then having to now navigate the even more frustrating step(s) of dealing with the Managed Long Term Care Companies and Home Health Care Agencies, I realized the need to offer families another choice with regard to expediting their family member’s long term care needs whether it be in their own home, with a healthcare worker, or in a skilled nursing facility.”
